if you haven’t checked out My New Roots yet, please, stop reading and go over to Sarah’s blog. Immediately. She is one of the most inspiring people in the whole world, her recipes are killer, and she includes so much wonderful nutrition information in her blog posts. Awesome stuff. I’ve tried out a few of her recipes, and loved every one of them, but I’ve always really wanted to try her Life Changing Loaf of Bread, especially because of my pretty consistent failure at gluten-free baking. This seemed pretty fool-proof, but I was anxious to see if it was fool-proof enough to cater to my level of oven fool-ness. It was. I am so obsessed with this bread that I actually dragged my mom to whole foods at 8:45 last night so that she could buy some psyllium seed husk and go home to make her own.
I won’t even type any information about this bread, because Sarah does too wonderful of a job that there’s nothing left to be said. Other than the fact that I used honey instead of maple syrup, and I also added raisins because I think I may have a raisin problem, especially when they’re inside of bread. But this stuff is magical. It’s great plain, it’s great with jam, it’s great with almond butter or as a sandwich or as toast or as everything. I’m heading over to Earth Fare first thing Monday morning to buy some bulk sunflower seeds, so that I’ll always be able to throw together a loaf of this bread (especially since it only takes about five minutes to prepare). And oh, how incredibly much I missed the smell of freshly baked bread in my kitchen. Back when I lived with my mom, my sister and I would bake bread almost weekly. Sourdough, cinnamon raisin, everything under the sun, we would put it all into dough, eat 40% of the raw dough while kneading it, and then bake (and sometimes burn) the rest. But there is nothing in the world like the smell of hot, fresh bread, and baking this delicious, fantastic creation reminded me how nice it is. Bread is so great, and when it’s as healthy and allergen-free as this one, it’s the best thing ever.
